Antimicrobial Resistance and Stewardship

World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week (WAAW) and European Antibiotic Awareness day (EAAD) are both campaigns which focus on antimicrobial resistance and stewardship.

AMR has been declared by the World Health Organisation as one of the top 10 global public health threats facing humanity. We all have a role in raising awareness of antimicrobial resistance and stewardship.

This year the themes for the national awareness campaigns focus on:

  • Antimicrobial Stewardship (for healthcare professionals working in all sectors)
  • Acute Respiratory Infection (for healthcare professionals working in primary & community sectors)
  • IV to oral switching (for healthcare professionals working in secondary care)

Below, you'll find a range of resources for healthcare professionals on the above topics. (Please note: Some content was originally produced for 2022 but has been approved for use for 23/24).

Awareness campaign date: November (annual)
