Quality management

We are Health Education and Improvement Wales’s (HEIW) Quality Unit. We are a team of dedicated individuals who are committed to ensuring the delivery of excellent patient care via the monitoring and development of high quality education and training.

We work closely with Foundation and Specialty Training Programme teams and local education providers (LEPs) across NHS Wales. We also work with stakeholders in deaneries and local Education and Training Boards across the UK to monitor the quality of programmes that include placements for trainees from Wales to ensure that medical training meets General Medical Council (GMC) standards.

We use a risk based quality management framework comprised of routine and responsive processes, the Unit ensures that when training does not meet national (GMC) and local standards that changes are facilitated and implemented to improve quality. In addition, we also seek to share best practice to drive improvement across Wales.
