Becoming a lay representative

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is recruiting a number of lay representatives to support the quality management of medical and dental training and ensure the voice of service users is heard and to ensure externality in our processes in the training of healthcare professionals.

As a lay representative you would be involved in the recruitment of doctors and dentists to training programmes, and contribute to the teams responsible for assessing their progress through training.

You should not have a clinical background or background in the health professions and you should not be working for the NHS at the time of application or have done so within the last two years.

How much time is required for the role?

The post offers approximately ten days work per year and is to be appointed for a one year period initially.

Where will I be required to work?

Lay representatives will be required to work flexibly and have the ability to travel to locations across Wales to participate in HEIW activities.

How much will I be paid?

Payment is made per whole day at a rate of £80.50 or per half day at a rate of £40.25 per event. Reasonable travel and subsistence costs will also be paid.
