Launch of new perinatal and infant mental health training modules on Y Ty Dysgu

Published 22/02/2024

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW)’s mental health team and Wales Perinatal Mental Health Network are excited to announce the launch of the new perinatal and infant mental health training modules on the Y Ty Dysgu learning platform.

The overall aim of this e-learning resource is to provide a highly detailed introduction for staff working from ‘informed’ through to ‘specialist’ levels as outlined within the Wales perinatal and infant mental health curricular framework.

We recognise the vital role that fathers and partners play during the perinatal period so we want to ensure that we can support their mental health and wellbeing as well.

This learning would support practitioners from a wide range of disciplines, such as:

  • Early Years
  • Emergency Services
  • Health Visiting
  • Maternity Services
  • Neonatal Units
  • Primary Care
  • Social Work
  • Specialist PNMH/PAIRS teams
  • Voluntary Sector

Ainsley Bladon, Strategic Mental Health Workforce Plan Implementation Lead at HEIW said, “We are delighted to be able to support the workforce to strengthen their knowledge, skills and understanding as they support families in this important period of life.”

Sharon Fernandez, National Clinical Lead for Perinatal Mental Health at NHS Wales Executive also commented, “It is so important that all colleagues working with women, their families, and babies during pregnancy and after having a baby, have the right knowledge, skills and support, to ensure that they are delivering the best care that they can. These online modules, will support all of us across Wales, to be able to achieve this.”
