The launch of the Staff Health and Wellbeing – A Best Practice Guide for NHS Wales

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is proud to announce the launch of the Staff Health and Wellbeing – A Best Practice Guide for NHS Wales, later this month.

Developed in partnership with Social Care Wales, Welsh Government, professional bodies and expert leads, the guide has been created to help improve staff health and wellbeing.

Created with NHS Wales at its heart, the guide is intended as an additional resource to support the implementation of organisational health and wellbeing strategies. It is a best practice resource to help improve staff wellbeing, which in turn, enables employees to thrive in the work.

Leadership expert and author of Compassionate Leadership, Professor Michael West CBE,  who has endorsed the guide, said:

“The Staff Health and Wellbeing – a Best Practice Guide for NHS Wales is focused on ensuring the wellbeing, growth, and engagement of all staff in health in Wales. Implicit in its design is the deep understanding that their wellbeing, being the most important factor in the delivery of high quality, continually improving and compassionate care for the people of Wales. It is underpinned by a deep grounding in scientific evidence about wellbeing from around the world. The Best Practice Guide will play a vital role in protecting, supporting and enabling all health and care staff in Wales for the benefit of the health and care of all the people of Wales.”

The virtual launch of the guide is at 09:30am on Monday 22 April 2024 with guest speakers including:

  • Professor Michael West, CBE
  • Julie Rogers, Deputy Chief Executive and Workforce and Organisational Development Director in HEIW 
  • Claire Smith, Lead for the NHS Wales Staff Health and Wellbeing Network 
  • Wellbeing leads from across NHS Wales

They will discuss the benefits of the guide and what it means for staff across NHS Wales.
