HEIW launches national survey for non-medical prescribers

We are launching a national survey for Non-Medical independent and supplementary Prescribers in primary and community care across Wales to gain insight of the type of peer support you would find most useful.
Consultation will be open until 1st June 2024 and workshops/webinars will be organised to collect feedback.
HEIW and a group of Non-Medical independent and supplementary Prescribers (NMP's) from all health boards are developing a model of continuing peer support to all NMP's in primary and community care across Wales. The goal of this network will be to help all these professionals to prescribe safely and effectively along their career. This will improve prescribing quality and maximise the valuable contribution of NMPs to patient care.
An increasing percentage of prescriptions in primary and community care are written by NMPs (nurses/midwifes, pharmacists, physiotherapists, dieticians, paramedics, podiatrists, optometrists, radiographers).
NMP in secondary care can rely on a vast network of colleagues to stay updated and ask for advice and peer support. However, NMP in primary and community care are often more professionally isolated. This isolation often leads them to stop prescribing as they don’t feel adequately supported to do so safely and confidently.
