Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) has today announced the appointment of Dr Ian Mathieson to the role of Director of Education Strategy and Transformation, following an extensive recruitment process.
Ian will be the first person to take on this new director role ensuring HEIW is informing and leading the healthcare education agenda in Wales and across the UK.
Ian joins HEIW from the University of South Wales where he is Associate Dean Partnerships and Business Development (Health and Social Care). He is also Convenor of the Council of Deans for Health (CoD) Wales. Having qualified as a podiatrist in 1995, Ian brings with him over 28 years of experience as a healthcare professional and academic.
Announcing Ian’s appointment, HEIW CEO Alex Howell’s said:
“We are delighted to welcome Ian to HEIW. With his extensive knowledge, experience and influence in healthcare systems, education and training, he is well placed to lead our strategic approach to education establishing HEIW as education strategist and guardian for NHS Wales.”
Ian will be joining HEIW in the summer.
The HEIW Director of Education Strategy and Transformation role encompasses the current Education Commissioning and Quality Team, the Multi Professional Primary and Community Education and Training Team and the Simulation Team.
