Double award success for Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW)

Working with HEIW and Social Care Wales colleagues the HEIW Strategic Mental Health Workforce plan implementation team won two coveted awards at the recent Healthcare People Management Association (HPMA) Cymru 2024 Awards.

The award for “Cross - Sector Working” was given for the development of the Mental Health Team Manager Development Programme (MHTMDP) in collaboration with staff from Social Care Wales and the award for “Workforce Analytics” was given for the development of a Mental Health Workforce Data Dashboard in collaboration with the HEIW Data and Analytics team.

The award for cross sector working demonstrated extensive engagement and collaboration that led to the development and delivery of the PgCert Mental Health Team Manager Development Programme that started in March 2024 with sixty candidates from across the NHS, Local Authority and third sector organisations.

The delivery of this project will improve the wellbeing and engagement of the workforce and contribute to improving retention. This will lead to better outcomes for the citizens of Wales as we will have the workforce available to meet the needs of those suffering with mental health issues.

Ainslie Bladon, Implementation Lead, Strategic Mental Health Workforce Plan said:

“The mental health workforce planning team are delighted to announce that we have won the HPMA system planning and workforce development award for cross sector working for Health Education and Improvement Wales and Social Care Wales.  We are so proud of our Welsh plan and that we could stand up and receive this award on behalf of our hardworking staff across Wales.”

The workforce analytics award highlighted how NHS Wales mental health workforce data has, for the first time, been brought together to produce an interactive dashboard that will help us to make informed workforce decisions.

Better workforce information systems will also help us gather the views of the workforce, in relation to their wellbeing and engagement and their ability to identify, contribute to and inform the changes to the delivery of health and social care, to ensure that we are delivering our ambition to have a motivated, engaged and valued health and social care workforce, with the capacity, confidence and competence to meet the needs of the people of Wales.

Craig Barker Assistant Director of Digital & Data (HEIW) said:

"We are thrilled to be part of the team receiving this award. This is a true reflection of the unwavering dedication, tireless efforts, and exceptional teamwork demonstrated by not only our team but everyone involved in delivering valuable insights. We couldn't be more proud!"
