The mental health work has been undertaken as part of the Nursing and Midwifery Transformation portfolio and has focussed on the development of the Strategic Mental Health Workforce Plan.
A key action from the Workforce Strategy for Health and Care was to develop a multi-professional workforce plan which began with a virtual conference in October 2020 (Informing the future of the Mental Health Workforce in Wales - virtual conference - HEIW (nhs.wales)). HEIW and Social Care Wales engaged with a wide range of stakeholders to write the workforce plan which went out to consultation in February 2022 – you can find all consultation information and documentation on the webpages: Consultation on the mental health workforce plan for health and social care - HEIW (nhs.wales). The plan is due to be finalised and published in June 2022.
The team are also involved in work in the three mental health priority areas of children and young people’s mental health, perinatal mental health and psychological therapies.
