Raising concerns and speaking up safely

Your voice matters and we’re here to listen and support you

If you witness or experience something that concerns you in the workplace or when training, please speak up.

There are clear processes in which HEIW staff, healthcare professional students and trainees, and doctors and dentists in post graduate training programmes can speak up safely, in confidence, without fear and be heard fairly.

Where and how can you raise a concern?

1. If you are a healthcare profession student, trainee or work-based learner, please visit the Raising a concern and speaking up safely for healthcare profession students, trainees and work-based learners* page.

2. If you are a doctor or dentist in post graduate training, please visit the Raising concerns and speaking up safely for doctors and dentists in post graduate training programmes page.

3. If you work in HEIW, please visit the ‘Speaking Up Safely at HEIW’ Sharepoint page.

Compassionate leadership

As the strategic workforce body and lead for compassionate leadership in NHS Wales, Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is committed to creating inclusive and psychologically safe working, training and learning environments.

We believe staff, students, doctors and dentists in post graduate training programmes, should feel safe and confident to raise concerns or speak up about something they have witnessed or experienced in the workplace or on placement.

Safety is paramount in healthcare and that includes when raising concerns.
