North Wales DCT1 scheme

The North Wales training scheme and postgraduate centre is based at Glan Clwyd Hospital, near Rhyl, on the main A55 trunk road into North Wales, 30 minutes from Chester. The centre has excellent facilities with a hands-on dental facility and a clinical simulation unit with an excellent library, IT facilities and seminar rooms. It has a reputation for friendliness, and you will find a very supportive atmosphere educationally and clinically.

Educational study days vary between small group learning (usually on Wednesdays) to attending national conferences, plus department clinical governance days and weekly clinical teaching. There are 2 days (1 day per 6-month rotation period) allocated for self-directed learning.

North Wales is renowned for its attractive coastal scenery, mountain landscapes and historic sites. Ample opportunities exist for outdoor pursuits including surfing, climbing, walking, canoeing, and sailing. The National Water sports Centre is at Plas Menai near Caernarfon and the National Mountaineering Centre, Plas y Brenin, is at Capel Curig. There are many visitor attractions to suit all ages and tastes and a vibrant arts scene. There are excellent transport links to Chester, Liverpool, Manchester, and Dublin.
