The dental postgraduate section is funded by the Welsh Government to ensure a high standard of education and training is delivered to dentists and DCPs throughout the principality.
We aim to promote Wales as the ideal location for dental foundation training, dental core training, dental specialty training and dental therapist foundation training. We are ultimately working to provide a high standard of patient-centred oral healthcare that links closely with Welsh Government’s prudent healthcare initiatives.
A programme of ongoing investment provides some of the most modern dental clinical skills simulation facilities, within the UK, situated in postgraduate centres across Wales. These facilities provide the cornerstone for dental skills training for trainee dentists and for the established Welsh dental workforce of dentists and DCPs, who provide oral healthcare in the primary care environment. A range of Continual Professional Development (CPD) training is also arranged and facilitated by the dental postgraduate section in dental practices, where the whole team can be trained at the same time.
The National Oral Health Plan (NOHP) for Wales identifies the action required by the Welsh Government, Health Boards, Public Health Wales and the dental postgraduate section of the Wales Deanery to address the challenges facing NHS dentistry in improving the oral health of the people of Wales. The dental postgraduate section has worked closely with various stakeholders to address the actions of the section. We have produced a report showing the contribution the dental postgraduate section has made to the delivery of the NOHP.
