Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is thrilled to launch the Strategic Workforce Plan for Primary Care alongside the Dental Strategic Workforce Plan.
The Strategic Workforce Plan for Primary Care has been created in partnership with the Strategic Programme for Primary Care (SPPC) and in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders.
Alex, Howells HEIW Chief Executive says:
“HEIW has been working to expand and improve education, training and workforce development in primary care since its establishment, but the launch of the Strategic Workforce Plan for Primary Care will provide even more momentum to support the development of a sustainable primary care workforce in line with 'A Healthier Wales' and the Workforce Strategy for Health and Care.”
The plan identifies 26 actions that will support the aims to improve the primary care services offered in NHS Wales. The plan also focuses on workforce morale and supporting people working within primary care to develop their roles to create sustainable services.
Sue Morgan, National Director for Primary Care said:
“The Strategic Workforce Plan for Primary Care is a key component of delivering the Primary Care Model for Wales. The levels of engagement from primary care across Wales on the development of the plan has shown the appetite for such a plan, and HEIW and the Strategic Programme for Primary Care are committed to implementing the plan with partners at pace.”
The plans were formally published during the HEIW Primary and Community Care Education and Training Stakeholder Conference, on Wednesday 15 May, 2024.
