From Monday 5 to Friday 9 August, Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) will be at the National Eisteddfod of Wales 2024 in Ynysangharad Park, Pontypridd.
HEIW will be located at wooden hut C39 opposite Pontypridd Lido, raising awareness of the 350+ careers and job roles within NHS Wales, and the vital contribution of the Welsh Language in caring for patients.
Whether you’re looking for your first job, a career change, a new job opportunity to use your transferable skills or a return to the NHS Wales workforce, there are many roles and areas of work to choose from.
HEIW will also be highlighting the importance of using Welsh at work within NHS Wales and the huge difference it can make to patient care.
As HEIW Welsh Language Manager Huw Owen, said:
“Evidence shows that if Welsh is a patient’s first language, they are more likely to have a better recovery if you speak to them in Welsh. Even if you only have a few words or are a beginner a little bit of Welsh goes a long way.
“We’re really looking forward to talking to people at the Eisteddfod about how they can make a difference using their Welsh Language skills in a rewarding healthcare career.”
Public Health Wales (PHW), Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) and NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP) will be joining HEIW across the week to represent NHS Wales, and on Wednesday 7 August, Executive Director of Digital, Data and Engagement at HEIW, Sian Richards, will be on a panel with DHCW and Hywel Dda University Health Board to discuss 'The Future of digital healthcare in Wales' in the Science and Tech Village.
Chris Jones, HEIW’s Chair and Welsh Language Champion, said:
“We are passionate about increasing the use of Welsh language across health and care, and there are lots of opportunities to learn and train through the medium of Welsh and be supported to use the language in NHS Wales careers.
“We’ll be on the MAEs so come along and say shwmae.”
