🔹🎉Introducing the Shared Decision Making (SDM) course. Shared decision making is an important skill for everyone working in health and care. This transformative eLearning course equips all healthcare professionals with the skills to engage patients, making them equal partners in health, care and well-being decisions. Individuals interested in facilitating can email 📧 heiw.ahp@wales.nhs.uk to set up a cohort, which can be run from within a team or organisation. 🔹HEIW is driving forward 8 strategic priorities to create a highly skilled, sustainable workforce - leading to better care and improved health outcomes across Wales.

🔹We were thrilled to be at Eisteddfod yr Urdd last week alongside Swansea Bay NHS  Together we highlighted the wide range of healthcare careers available across Wales, as part of HEIW’s role in addressing key workforce shortages in NHS Wales. 🔹As part of our work in HEIW we support community pharmacy employers to develop their workforce to meet service needs, pharmacy technicians are an integral part of that workforce. We deliver a two-year Pre-registration Pharmacy Technician training programme via a Welsh Government funded Apprenticeship.

🔹The 2nd of June marks World Orthoptic Day!  We celebrated the vital role orthoptists play in improving vision and transforming lives across NHS Wales. Orthoptists are highly skilled allied health professionals who specialise in diagnosing and managing eye movement disorders and visual development problems.

🔹HEIW is committed to increasing independent prescribers across healthcare settings to improve access to clinical services for patients. We are offering education and training support to expand the availability of clinical pharmacy services across healthcare settings, and we’re inviting early career pharmacists (18–24 months registered) to join our Post-Registration Foundation Pharmacist Programme in September 2025 and January 2026!

🔹 We promoted the resources we have for healthcare professionals on Analgesic Stewardship and Pain Management at @The British Pain Society Annual Scientific meeting this week in Newport.
These open-access resources raise awareness and can support a variety of professional groups in their interactions with patients across different healthcare settings, improving patient outcomes and reducing medication-related harm in line with Welsh Government priorities for A Healthier Wales.
