Around 100,000 doctors – trainees and trainers – are being asked to participate in the survey. It’s held every year and is the largest annual insight into workplace education and training.
Questions cover areas including the quality of training; workloads and burnout; time available to deliver or receive training; access to break rooms and study spaces, and incivility and rudeness in the workplace. This year’s survey also includes questions
about the impact of the pandemic.
The GMC will act on the results in its work with Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) to safeguard the quality of training and to help training recover after the pandemic. That means that a wide variety of responses, across specialties and regions, is crucial.
Take part today or visit www.gmc-uk.org/nts for more information about how your answers drive change.
Trainees will need to log into the GMC Online account:
http://www.gmc-uk.org/doctors/information_for_doctors/gmc_online.asp
The trainee survey can then be accessed by clicking on the ‘My Surveys’ tab. The first page of the survey form will be pre-populated with the trainee’s post details and trainees will only need to confirm if they are correct or amend if necessary.
The survey is relevant to Foundation, Core and Higher Specialty trainees including specialty registrar (SpR) and GP trainees. The only exceptions to this are SpRs/StRs who have been awarded their CCT but are awaiting a consultant post, dentists, non-medical Public Health trainees, Doctors who are not in training posts e.g locum appointment for service (LAS) and trust grade doctors, Medical Training Initiative (MTI) trainees. Trainee populations who will not be surveyed but information will be collected about are trainees who are on maternity leave as at 20 April 2021 or are out of programme trainees (OOPT) outside of the UK, out of programme research (OOPR), out of programme clinical experience (OOPE), or out of programme career break.
Once again, completion of the survey is a mandatory requirement for Foundation and Specialty trainees as per the Gold and Purple Guide.
PLEASE NOTE: Out of Programme trainees (UK Based) will AGAIN be required to participate in the survey this year.
If you have any suggestions on how we can work together to improve our response rate or have any other queries about the survey, please do not hesitate to contact us. This is a rare opportunity to influence training by giving the GMC your views on the standard of medical education and training within Wales. Responses will be treated as CONFIDENTIAL and reported ANONYMOUSLY.
Educational Supervisors: In secondary care this refers to those who have signed up to the Educational Supervision Agreement and in primary care this refers to GP Trainers.
Named Clinical Supervisors: Those Clinical Supervisors who oversee a trainees’ work throughout the post and are involved in progress decisions.
