Trainer Induction

All individuals who commit to taking on a medical trainer role in secondary care or undergraduate education are strongly encouraged to participate in trainer induction.

The aim of induction is to support trainers in developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to enable them to provide effective supervision and support to their resident doctor(s) and to promote safe and positive learning environments in which resident doctors can thrive.

HEIW hosts an annual face to face induction day which is primarily aimed at:

  • individuals who are new to a medical trainer role and who currently undertake one or more of the following medical trainer roles requiring recognition by the GMC under its arrangements for the recognition of trainers in secondary care and undergraduate education:

• Educational Supervisors

• Named Clinical Supervisors

• Those responsible for overseeing students’ progress at each medical school

• Lead co-ordinators at each Local Education Provider

  • resident doctors in their final year of postgraduate medical training to prepare them for becoming trainers in the future.

For those unable to attend in person, an online induction package comprising the recordings from a previous induction day is available to view here
