We are delighted to have sponsored an award at the recent Womenspire Award ceremony hosted by Chwarae Teg in Cardiff. Finalists came from all walks of life across Wales and all have something very much in common – they have all gone above and beyond to make a real positive difference to their own lives and the lives of others.
We want to shine a light on their remarkable accomplishments, as they can so often go unnoticed.
We sponsored the Woman in Health and Care award and it was presented to Kayley Hyman, by Alex Howells, CEO at HEIW, for her work setting up Holistic Hoarding positively impacting the outcomes of service users in care experiencing hoarding issues.
Many congratulations to Kayley.
Sponsored by HEIW
This award was introduced to reflect the disproportionate impact that the Covid-19 pandemic had on women – including women being twice as likely to be key workers. The award is for a woman who has set a shining example across any aspect of health or care, from medical and support staff to training and educational roles.
Judi Rhys, Cardiff
CEO of Tenovus Cancer care, Judi Rhys is a dedicated and influential leader in her sector and across wider healthcare communities. She is incredibly active in supporting those affected by cancer, within her organisation and other women too – being a strong believer in not pulling the ladder up behind her. Her passion for tackling health inequalities has led to successful campaigns highlighting important issues and, ultimately, improving outcomes for people affected by cancer in Wales.
Julie Cornish, Cardiff
Colorectal surgery consultant and founder of the everywoman festival, Julie, has a passion and fierce determination to improve women’s health services across Wales. She has a particular interest in pelvic health and works tirelessly to increase awareness, educate and advocate for the issues surrounding this. As well as her full-time role within the NHS, Julie also works as a senior lecturer, has set up hubs and services across Cardiff and beyond, has raised huge amounts of money, trains medical students and juniors and supports other women who want to get into the surgical professions too.
Kate Prothero, Powys
Kate is the admin lead for the covid vaccination programme in Powys. She has had a huge impact on her area of the industry whilst rolling out the programme, alongside keeping the team in high spirits and making sure everyone feels welcome. Kate is passionate about making sure everyone who comes into their team is met with an inclusive environment, is informed and supported and through doing this, has created a positive culture where everyone can thrive and their vital work supporting the community is delivered at its highest level.
Kayley Hyman, Gwent
Recognising a gap in care for service users experiencing hoarding issues, Kayley took it upon herself to set up Holistic Hoarding and positively impact the outcomes for those being affected. Through educating other practitioners and organisations and directly working with the service users too, Kayley has greatly influenced the experiences and outcomes of those struggling with hoarding issues. She has had to work hard to overcome barriers she has been met with along the way but allows her passion and determination to drive her.
