Virtual careers village for NHS Wales launches new mental health building

Today (18 October 2023), Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) has launched a Mental Health building in Careersville to reveal a brand-new collection of careers-focused resources for young individuals interested in, or considering a career within mental health.

Careersville is an innovative, fully-bilingual, online platform showcasing the wide range of career opportunities available across the different health and social care sectors in Wales.

Visitors to the digital village can enter various buildings to access careers resources and guidance, including blogs and vlogs from health care professionals, to gain insight into what it’s like to work within the NHS and wider health and care services.

Other new developments released on the platform today, include:

  • The Careersville Explorer – this new, virtual train ride allows individuals considering a career within health and care to journey around Careersville and discover the wealth of roles and job opportunities across sectors within NHS Wales.
     
  • refreshed nursing careers resources – including a student-led interview with Sue Tranka, Chief Nursing Officer for Wales. These new resources are located inside the Nursing building.

 

  • new mental health building complete with a community garden that features mental health and wellbeing resources for the user, including tips for experiencing stress whilst studying and signposting to additional mental health support resources.

 

  • new careers-focused vlogs from a range of allied health professionals, including speech therapists, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists. These videos are located inside the Allied Health Professionals building.

 

Angie Oliver, Deputy Director of Workforce and Organisational Development at Health Education and Improvement Wales said:

“Our live online careers event is aimed at post 16 and adult learners to find out more about educational or future working opportunities with NHS Wales. The event will be recorded for colleagues to catch up on which features a number webinars; highlighting different careers, writing a personal statement, a session on apprenticeships and work-based learning, and a dedicated session just for career leaders and professionals. We are also launching our new look Careersville platform which is now 3-D!”
