Our Health & Social Care peer review on low vision held recently

The Low Vision Multi-disciplinary Peer Review event hosted by HEIW Optometry on Wednesday, 18 September 2024, was a significant success, bringing together health and social care professionals from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. The event fostered a collaborative atmosphere where those form social and health care shared insights on managing patients through the low vision pathways.

Key Successes of the Event:

•         Collaborative Environment: The event created an inclusive space for professionals from social and health care to engage in discussions about real-world case scenarios related to low vision. This collaborative setting allowed attendees to share insights, address challenges, and brainstorm management and referral pathway strategies, promoting peer support, mutual learning and understanding.

•         Knowledge Exchange: It provided a valuable platform for the exchange of resources, up-to-date information, and professional expertise. The event successfully bridged the gap between different groups involved in supporting individuals living with sight loss, encouraging the dissemination of best practices and innovative care approaches.

•         Empowerment of Practitioners: By enhancing knowledge and confidence, the event empowered both social and health care professionals to better understand the local and national support systems available for people living with sight loss. This knowledge sharing enabled participants to connect patients more effectively with the services they need, ensuring timely and appropriate support.

We are optimistic that this peer review has strengthened the collaboration among different professional groups involved in the care of individuals living with sight loss, ultimately improving their quality of life. We eagerly anticipate more regional events in the near future to continue this valuable exchange and collaboration.
