General practices across Wales are being urged to join a growing network of healthcare providers committed to supporting former and current military personnel by becoming Veteran Friendly Accredited Practices.
This important accreditation administered by the Revalidation Support Unit (RSU) in HEIW and Welsh Government, recognises GP surgeries that go the extra mile to deliver specialist care tailored to the needs of veterans and their families. Veterans are able to locate a nearby accredited practice by visiting our website where 57 practices in Wales are already accredited. The programme is part of a broader effort to uphold the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant and improve access to appropriate healthcare for those who have served.
To achieve accreditation, a named clinician at the practice must complete the Veterans’ health and wellbeing module, which includes:
Notably, the final aspects of the module require a declaration by the clinician affirming that these commitments have been implemented at the practice.
Dr Chris Price, Head of RSU said “Veterans often face unique health challenges linked to their time in service, and our goal is to ensure they receive the recognition and care they deserve. Becoming a Veteran Friendly Practice is a clear demonstration of your surgery’s support for the Armed Forces community.”
GP practices interested in joining this initiative can begin the process today and stand alongside their peers in creating a more inclusive and understanding healthcare environment for veterans and their families.
