Healthcare practice course upskills 100+ healthcare support workers

Published 31/10/2023

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) was delighted to be part of Grwp Llandrillo Menai’s Healthcare Practice Celebration Event on Friday (27 October 2023).

The event was held to celebrate the achievements of more than 100 healthcare support workers (HCSW) who have successfully completed Coleg Llandrillo’s Level 4 Healthcare Practice Course.

Funded by HEIW and delivered in partnership with Bangor University and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, the course upskills healthcare support workers who are working or willing to take on a placement within an NHS trust or a suitable clinical-approved employer.

Following completion of the course, students are often able to progress in their current role and place of work or go directly onto the second year of a nursing degree, should they wish to pursue a career in nursing.

HEIW’s Deputy Director of Education Commissioning and Quality, Martin Riley, closed the event by congratulating the students.

He said: “This programme is vital in helping to widen participation in higher education and advancing NHS Wales careers.

"Completion of the course is not just about the qualification, it's about the skills, confidence and believe that's instilled in you as well.

"You're improving people's futures - your own as well as you families and patients. You really are making a difference and should be so proud of your achievement."
