We’re delighted to announce that the DEMEC25 (Developing Excellence in Medical Education Conference) programme is now live - and we’re proud to be at the heart of education and training for a globally sustainable healthcare workforce.

This year’s event promises a fantastic line-up of sessions, discussions, and workshops that will explore the future of medical education and workforce development.

🌟 HEIW at DEMEC25

We’re proud to see Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) so well represented in this year’s programme:

  • Alex Howells, Chief Executive, will be joining the ‘Four Nations Fireside Chat’ on 8 December, bringing a Welsh perspective to the discussion on national education and training priorities.
  • Gethin Pugh, Director of Educational Improvement, will present ‘Enhancing Medical Education Leadership Using an Improvement Approach to Faculty Team Appraisals: Outcomes, Impact, and Strategic Development in Postgraduate Training’.
  • Leona Walsh, Professional Support Unit manager and practitioner, and Ian Collings, will deliver ‘One Size Does Not Fit All: Inclusive Education Strategies for Neurodivergent Doctors and Medical Students’, highlighting HEIW’s inclusive approach to education and wellbeing.
  • Ian Collings will chair an Academy of Medical Royal Colleges workshop on ‘Supporting neurodivergent doctors through reasonable adjustments and accessibility’, discussing good practice in supporting neurodivergent doctors in the workplace and with examinations.
  • Anton Saayman will deliver an abstract presentation entitled ‘Enhancing Medical Education Leadership Using an Improvement Approach to Faculty Team Appraisals: Outcomes, Impact, and Strategic Development in Postgraduate Training’, presented on Monday 8 December morning. He is also an author on a poster entitled ‘Exploring the Role of Trainee-Led Innovation in Medical Education Leadership Development: Insights from HEIW’s Trainees Transforming Training (TTT) Initiative’.
  • Parisa Torabi, one of our resident doctors and Welsh Clinical Leadership Fellow, will be showcasing her poster prestation related to ‘Experiences of Resident Doctors in Wales Returning to Training’.

 

Shaping the Future Workforce

HEIW’s interactive sessions will explore some of the big questions facing NHS Wales today - from recruitment and retention, leadership, to staff wellbeing, new technologies, and preparing a workforce that’s ready for the future.

We’ll also be exhibiting at DEMEC25, so come and visit our stand to learn more about our national role in workforce planning, education, and training across Wales.
