Post Registration / Postgraduate Education for healthcare professionals

Healthcare professionals undertake post registration education to further develop their knowledge and skills.  This enables them to enhance their practice and provide improved services for patients.

Post reg/Postgrad education builds on knowledge and skills from initial qualification and registration.  It equips professionals with advanced knowledge and skills  relevant to their professional role.

Post reg/ postgrad education funding is available to support any registered health professional whose role includes the delivery of health care services, whether this forms the core of their practice or a defined component of a broader clinical role. This includes professionals from nursing, midwifery, allied health professions, and the healthcare science professionals, recognising that health care is delivered across a wide range of settings and disciplines. Eligibility is therefore based on the health care that is provided, not on professional title or job label, ensuring that those contributing to the health care needs of individuals, families, or populations are able to access appropriate education and development opportunities that strengthen safe, effective, and evidence-informed practice across the system.

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) provides additional support to organisations to fund the training and development of staff. Tuition fees are paid for all students who have been allocated this funding via their organisation.

Funding guidance can be found here.

All prospective applicants selected for post graduate education funding, must ensure this requirement is identified with their line manager as part of their PADR and agreed with their education department.
