Welsh Government have approved the Education and Training Plan (ETP) for 2025-26, with an investment of £294m to maintain education and training commissioning levels. Education and training is key to ensuring a sustainable workforce in NHS Wales and supporting the system to deliver high quality and safe patient care.
The Education and Training Plan is produced by Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW), in collaboration with partners. Its sets out the training and education commissioning numbers for the health professional workforce, with a focus on multi-professional training and a shift towards primary and community care.
Alex Howells, Chief Executive at HEIW, said: “This plan has been developed in collaboration with key stakeholders from across NHS Wales and will support current and future workforce numbers. "The plan supports workforce growth while addressing financial pressures and recruitment challenges across NHS Wales and will strengthen the future workforce to deliver quality care to our population and work in Wales in a range of roles and locations.”
Full details of the revised Education and Training Plan 2025-26 and appendices have been published on our Education and Training plan page.
