Every day in podiatry is different. I do nail surgery on one day each week and work in community clinics on the other two days. People come to me with many kinds of problems with their feet and legs. I never know what problem I will see next. It might be a small corn, an ingrowing toenail, a cut, a bone infection, walking problems, or issues with blood flow
I love that I can sometimes help people feel better straight away, in some cases patients can come to me in a lot of pain and I am able to do something that gives them instant relief! I also enjoy the part of podiatry that most people don’t know about. We do lots of checks on our patients. We have spotted irregular heartbeats, skin cancers, vitamin problems and other illnesses people don’t expect podiatrists to find. Helping people feel better is the best part of my job.
There are lots of chances to learn and grow in podiatry. There are different areas you can work in, like diabetes, blood flow, muscles and joints. I make sure I go to all training sessions and courses so I can stay up to date with new things in podiatry.
