Exploring Primary Care

What is Primary Care?
Primary care is the first place you go when you need help with your health.
It is close to home and easy to reach.

What does Primary Care do?

Primary care helps with common illnesses and long-term health problems. You might visit your doctor or pharmacy, go to the dentist for check-ups or tooth problems, or see an optometrist if you have trouble with your eyes. Primary care also gives vaccinations and runs health checks to keep people safe and well.

Why is it important?

Primary care makes sure you get the right help quickly. Most of your care happens here, but if you need special treatment, you can be sent to other health professionals. Did you know that 90% of NHS patient visits happen in primary care? That’s why it is so important.

Who works in Primary Care?

There are lots of jobs in primary care. Doctors and nurses work here, as well as dentists, pharmacists and optometrists. There are also physiotherapists, occupational therapists, paramedics, receptionists and practice managers. Everyone plays an important role.

Why choose a career in Primary Care?

It is a job where you help people and work with a team. You can learn new skills and try different roles. It is exciting and rewarding because you make a real difference in people’s lives. If you want to help your community and be part of something special, primary care could be perfect for you.
