Through our Digitally Enabled Workforce Transformation Programme, we are building on the Digital Capability Framework (DCF) to develop a more personalised and practical approach to help NHS Wales colleagues use digital technology safely, confidently and effectively in their roles at work.
By connecting individual needs, role expectations, relevant learning and workplace support, we aim to strengthen digital capability, improve how technology is used across services and contribute to improved patient care.
The DCF remains the common foundation for this approach.
How the approach works
Our approach connects four stages, with learning and reflection continuing over time.
Capability relevant to your role
Digital capability needs vary between roles and settings. Someone using digital systems in everyday practice may need different capabilities from someone supporting colleagues or leading digital change.
We are developing a Graduated Capability Model to help identify proportionate expectations for different roles and responsibilities. This will help people focus on the capabilities that matter for their work. The approach supports personal reflection, learning and continuing professional development.
Supporting teams and services
Developing capability also means understanding the conditions people need to use their skills. Access to technology, time to learn, leadership and practical support all matter. We are developing ways to help teams identify these needs alongside the capabilities required for changes in services and ways of working.
What we are developing
You can use the current Digital Capability Framework to reflect on your digital capability and identify areas for development. The interactive self-evaluation and learning resources are available through Y Tŷ Dysgu.
Sign in to Y Tŷ Dysgu, or create an account if you are new to the platform. Use your reflection to choose development priorities and discuss the learning or workplace support that would help you.
