Katelyn Burch - Wellbeing Coordinator

What our role and normal day involves

A Wellbeing Coordinator is someone who helps adults find support in their community. We help people with their social, emotional, and practical needs. We talk to people to learn what is important to them. Then we help them find activities, groups, or services close to where they live. Every day can be different. We speak to people who may need help with many things. Some may have problems with money or housing. Others may feel lonely and want to meet new people. Some want to eat healthier or try new activities. We also support people who want to volunteer, find a job, or get training. We work with many community groups. These groups run activities and support sessions for local people. We often go to events and meetings to tell others about the wellbeing service and how we can help. Our job helps people feel more connected to their community. We help them learn new skills, make friends and try new things. This can improve their wellbeing and quality of life. It is a varied job and we get to work with many different organisations and people.

What I enjoy about my job

What I enjoy most about our job is helping people make changes in their lives. We start by having a simple chat about what matters most to them. This helps people understand their goals and why they want to improve their health and wellbeing. After we support them, people can make real long lasting changes. I feel very lucky to be a small part of this journey. I also enjoy working with lots of different teams. This is a very important part of our job. We work closely with the Community Health and Wellbeing team. This team includes many professionals, such as wellbeing coordinators, GPs, pharmacists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and mental health workers. We all work together to support people in the local area. By working as a team, we can give people the full support they need. It feels good to see so many health professionals sitting together, sharing ideas and working to help improve people’s health and wellbeing. This teamwork is one of the best parts of my role.

My career ambitions

As a team, we all agree that we want to work with people to help their health and wellbeing. Many of us have special interests, like mental health, housing, or supporting people who are grieving. We care a lot about our work and are very passionate about making a positive difference in people’s lives. How I got into this role Many of us started this job because we had experience working with people before. We enjoyed helping others and liked seeing how even small things like a smile, a thank you, or someone sharing a positive change could make a big difference. This made us want to keep helping people. Others joined this role after studying a health related course at university then worked towards gaining a job in this line of work.

The kind of person that this role would suit

This job is good for someone who likes being around people and enjoys helping others. You should care about supporting people with their health and wellbeing and helping them to help themselves. You would help people with problems that affect their feelings, social life, or daily needs. This role is also great for someone who likes working in a team and being part of the community. You need to be organised and able to manage your own work. You would look after your own group of people who need help and be the main person they talk to when they need support.
