AI education and training resources

This section brings together practical, ready-to-use resources that NHS Wales staff can explore to build their understanding of artificial intelligence in a safe and supported way. It includes access to Foundations in AI, a national introductory learning module available to all staff, alongside HALI - an AI-powered learning mentor that allows users to explore AI topics through conversation. Also, GWEN is HEIW’s Genomics AI Mentor. It is being developed to support NHS Wales staff to build confidence and understanding in genomics, through a safe, conversational learning experience.

Like HALI, GWEN is embedded within Y Tŷ Dysgu and is designed for education and training. It allows staff to ask questions, explore concepts and understand how genomics may relate to their role and area of practice.

GWEN is complemented by the Genomics Capability Framework, helping staff identify relevant knowledge, skills and learning needs in a structured way. This means the AI mentor can support role-relevant learning while remaining aligned to an agreed national framework.

GWEN is educational only. It does not provide clinical advice, patient-specific guidance or diagnostic support. Its purpose is to help staff learn about genomics, understand its relevance to healthcare, and build confidence in engaging with this important and evolving area of practice.

These resources are designed for everyday use, require no technical background, and are relevant to both clinical and non-clinical roles.
