Healthcare science network

Established in the early 2000’s to bring the Modernising Scientific Careers development to Wales, the Healthcare Science Network includes healthcare science professionals from across Wales. Together, Network members enable collaboration, leadership, service transformation and healthcare science workforce development in NHS Wales.

The Network is supported by Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) and plays a key role in providing professional advice, leadership and a collective voice for the healthcare science workforce in Wales.

What does the Network do?

The Healthcare Science Network:

  • Provides representation from every healthcare science profession in Wales, ensuring that all voices contribute to national discussions and developments.

  • Supports collaboration and shared learning between more than 30 healthcare science professions, helping to drive innovation, service improvement and workforce development.

  • Acts as a forum for professional advice, enabling the healthcare science community to contribute to policy, education and workforce priorities in Wales and the UK.

  • Influences national workforce priorities, aligning professional perspectives with Welsh Government strategies, including A Healthier Wales: Our Workforce Strategy for Health and Social Care.

Healthcare Science Network Guidance

The Consultant Clinical Scientists recommendations were produced by the Healthcare Science Network. They provide information and guidance about the role, recruitment, education, training and attainment requirements for Consultant Clinical Scientists across NHS Wales.

The document aims to facilitate the development of healthcare science services where Consultant Clinical Scientists can play a key leadership role in multi-professional service provision and transformation. This contributes towards the ambition in 'A Healthier Wales: Our Workforce Strategy for Health and Social Care' to have a workforce with the capacity, competence and confidence to meet the needs of the people of Wales.
