IDG Mentor Support Resources

The International Mentoring Partnership (IMP) scheme (formerly known as PVLE) supports international dental graduates to gain inclusion on the Dental Performers list. This programme, managed and coordinated by local health boards, aims to strengthen educational supervision, promote effective mentoring relationships and support a consistent understanding of training expectations.

Developing Dental Educators (DDE) Course

Historically, mentors involved in the IMP scheme were expected to complete the Developing Dental Educators (DDE) course. This course remains available and is delivered annually.

Online Learning Modules for IDG Mentors

A new suite of five flexible online learning modules will soon be available for mentors supporting international dental graduates. The modules will be accessible on demand and will form part of a formal certification pathway for IDG mentors. The modules required for certifications include: Principles of Adult Learning for Dental Professionals - Helping Others Learn, Mentoring for the International Dental Workforce, NHS Rules and Regulations, Shared Decision Making and Meaningful reflections for the Dental team.

These courses are designed to align with the aims and key educational principles underpinning the Developing Dental Educators (DDE) programme, particularly in relation to adult learning, feedback, trainee support, and learner-centred education. Additionally, they provide a greater insight and relevance to mentoring international dental graduates and NHS rules and regulations in general dental practice.
