Interpersonal Psychotherapy Training

The South Wales Interpersonal Psychotherapy Training Centre

The South Wales Interpersonal Psychotherapy Training Centre / Cwrs IPT De Cymru offers a six-day course funded by HEIW introducing experienced mental health professionals to Interpersonal Psychotherapy. This course enables the attendee to understand IPT and how it applies to the treatment of depression. They will learn the unique skills necessary in the initial, middle and end stage work of IPT via various experiential exercises. The course provides a detailed handbook which reinforces the knowledge gained so they are in the best position to use it upon their return to their services.

The Training Centre can train clinicians to become accredited IPT practitioners registered with IPT UK. https://www.iptuk.net/.   Not all clinicians will proceed to the second phase of training which entails about a year of close supervised practice on up to 4 cases, and those that do proceed will be selected at the end of the 6-day course.

The three course trainers have extensive clinical experience of applying IPT within Welsh clinical settings for clients with depression, eating disorders and within children,  young peoples and perinatal services and are experienced trainers registered with IPT UK.  The South Wales IPT Training Centre / Cwrs IPT De Cymru was established in 2020 and has a proven track record of helping Welsh health boards develop successful IPT care pathways for clients via workforce development.
