HEIW Information for Residents Doctors Webpages

The Information for Resident Doctors Webpages are your first port of call for postgraduate medical training guidance, policies, processes, updates and information about the training programmes available in Wales. The wider HEIW website also includes support services, wellbeing resources and educational opportunities.

The Resident Doctor Handbook is a quick-reference guide to key policies, processes and training information.

The Resident Doctor Training Journey

The Resident Doctor Training Journey, hosted on Y Tŷ Dysgu, is a modular e-learning resource that supports doctors throughout postgraduate training. It provides clear guidance on training structures, expectations and key processes, and can be revisited at different stages of training.

Y Tŷ Dysgu

Y Tŷ Dysgu is the learning platform used to host a range of courses and events for the health and social care workforce in Wales. Resident doctors should register for an account to access teaching, learning modules and wider resources to support development against the Generic Professional Capabilities Framework.

You will have been provided access to Codi, HEIW's training management system.

Please keep your personal, contact and employment details up to date in Codi. This helps us contact you and ensures those supporting your training can access the information they need.

Key Partners

NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership

Resident doctors with a HEIW training number are employed by NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP) through the Single Lead Employer (SLE) arrangement. NWSSP manages key employment matters including contracts, pay, statutory leave and workplace adjustments.

The NWSSP App and SharePoint site provide quick access to employment resources, policies, forms and contacts. Visit the NWSSP website for App download instructions, further employment information, support and guidance.

Health Boards

Specialty training in Wales is delivered across six Health Boards.

• Cardiff and Vale University Health Board
• Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board
• Hywel Dda University Health Board
• Swansea Bay University Health Board

We also work with Public Health Wales, Velindre University NHS Trust and Welsh Ambulances Services NHS Trust.

Each Health Board has a Medical Education Centre offering local support throughout your placement.
