What is a Healthcare Science Professional

Healthcare science professionals play a vital role in NHS Wales, working both behind the scenes and on the frontline. They help to prevent illness, diagnose conditions, treat patients, and support recovery, using science, technology, and clinical expertise. 

There are over 30 healthcare science professions, grouped into six specialist areas: 

Across all areas, there are opportunities to work in assistant and associate roles. With further training and experience, healthcare science professionals can progress into Clinical Scientist and Consultant Clinical Scientist roles, combining advanced practice, leadership, and innovation.
