National Culture Dashboard

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is leading on the development of a National Culture Dashboard which will bring together key workforce and organisational data into a single, accessible view, enabling NHS Wales to better understand workforce experience, identify emerging trends and evaluate the impact of actions taken to improve organisational culture.

Why is this needed?

NHS Wales already collects a wide range of workforce, culture and organisational data, including:

  • NHS Wales Staff Survey results
  • Workforce metrics
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion data
  • Safety and wellbeing indicators

While each dataset provides valuable insight in its own right, they are not routinely combined to provide a coherent, system-wide picture of workforce experience and organisational culture.

Although existing dashboards and reporting arrangements are available, feedback from across the system highlights that information can be fragmented, presented inconsistently and difficult to interpret across multiple sources. There is currently no agreed national approach to triangulating workforce and culture data to provide a clear, consistent measure of organisational culture or to assess whether improvement actions are making a meaningful difference.

Our vision

The National Culture Dashboard will support NHS Wales by creating a shared, evidence-based understanding of workforce experience and organisational culture. By bringing together multiple data sources into a single national view, it will provide organisations with a consistent way to monitor organisational "temperature", identify areas of strength and concern and inform improvement activity.

This approach will help ensure that decisions are informed by robust evidence and that actions taken in response to staff feedback can be monitored and evaluated over time.

Benefits

The dashboard will deliver a number of benefits including:

  • Improved visibility of workforce experience and culture trends.
  • A more consistent understanding of organisational "temperature" across NHS Wales.
  • Greater ability to evaluate impact, helping organisations understand whether actions taken in response to staff feedback are leading to meaningful improvements.
  • A more integrated view of workforce, culture and organisational data to support informed decision-making.
  • Enhanced national consistency in how workforce experience and organisational culture are monitored and reported.
