Urgent primary care practitioner framework

Helping you grow your career

If you work in urgent primary care in Wales, the Urgent Primary Care Practitioner (UCP) Framework is here to support your professional development. Whether you're just starting out or already an experienced clinician.

This framework is designed for multi-professional teams, including nurses, pharmacists, paramedics and physiotherapists.

It helps you build your skills, track your progress, and connect with others working in similar roles across Wales.

What’s in it for you?

How to get started
  1. Explore the Framework to learn what competencies apply to your role and how to evidence them.
  2. Join the UPC Network on Y Ty Dysgu to access resources and upcoming Continued Professional Development (CPD) sessions.
  3. Talk to your supervisor using the framework to guide your development conversations and plan your next steps.

What's new?

We have launched a new mental health support resource for the multi-professional urgent primary care workforce across NHS Wales. The resource provides health and care professionals working within urgent primary care with centralised access to practical, evidence-based tools and guidance that can be used to help assess and efficiently respond to patient mental health concerns.

Free to access within the UPC Network on Y Ty Dysgu, this launch marks the first in a planned series of supportive resources for the urgent primary care team covering key areas, including women’s health and paediatrics. These will become available over the coming months.

Coming Soon
  • CPD sessions are being planned for Autumn 2025, with a focus on paediatrics, women's health and mental health.
  • Insights from services adopting the framework and shaping what’s next.
  • We’re continuing to build on our library of tools, videos, and learning materials. Watch this space.
