Have Your Say: Help Shape the Future of Healthcare Education in Wales

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is calling on learners, educators, employers and anyone with a stake in the future of the NHS to help shape the very first NHS Wales Education Strategy.

The future of healthcare in Wales depends on the people who deliver it and the education that prepares them and supports them throughout their career. This is your opportunity to influence how we educate and train the NHS workforce for years to come.

With a formal Call for Evidence now open, HEIW invites individuals and organisations from across Wales and beyond to share their experiences, ideas, challenges and innovations to help us build a dynamic and future-proof education strategy that will help us ensure that high-quality.

Why take part?

Education is a critical determinant of patient experience and the quality of care and shapes our whole service. It shapes how we respond to digital transformation, evolving care models, and changing patient needs. And it shapes the confidence, wellbeing, resilience and expertise of the entire NHS workforce.

By contributing to this strategy, you're not just adding your voice, you're helping to:

  • Equip NHS Wales with the right skills for tomorrow’s challenges
  • Improve access and inclusion for future healthcare learners
  • Support the educators who support our future workforce
  • Drive innovation through digital technology and AI
  • Deliver better care, outcomes, and experiences for patients across Wales
What we’re looking for:

We’re seeking evidence and insights across five key areas:

  • Educational Quality: How can we provide the highest quality education that better prepares learners, promotes engagement and reduces attrition?
  • Curriculum and Pedagogy: What should we teach and how should we do it?
  • Inclusion and Equity: How do we break down barriers to healthcare careers to ensure opportunities are available to all?
  • Technology in Education: How can digital tools and AI improve learning?
  • Supporting Educators: How can we empower the people training the workforce?

Ian Mathieson, HEIW Director Of Education Strategy & Transformation, said: “This is our moment to reimagine what healthcare education in Wales can and should be. We’re asking everyone who cares about the future of the NHS, from students to seasoned professionals to the public and anyone with relevant expertise or experience  to share their experiences, their ideas, and their hopes. Together, we can shape an education system that inspires, includes and equips the workforce of tomorrow.”
