Resident doctors have the right to request a review, and in certain circumstances an appeal, if you receive a developmental ARCP outcome (2,3,4,7.2, 7.3 or 7.4) and believe the outcome is incorrect. You must submit your request within 10 working days of receiving your outcome letter.
The panel for ARCP outcome reviews and appeals will be acting in line with the Medical Gold Guide, Dental Gold Guide or Dental Blue Guide recommendations
It can be helpful to initially discuss your ARCP outcome with your supervisor, Training Programme Director (TPD) or Foundation Programme Director (FPD) before pursuing a review or appeal.
The appeals process can happen in two stages:
To request a review of your ARCP outcome you must submit the Stage 1 Appeal Request Form within 10 days of receiving your ARCP outcome letter. You must include your grounds for appeal on this form, along with any other relevant information. Please ensure you include as much relevant detail as possible, as the review panel will use this to assess your ARCP outcome decision.
If the decision of the stage 1 review panel is to award an outcome 1, 2 or 10.1, this decision is final, and the appeal stops here. If you are given an outcome 3, 10.2 or 4, you may wish to progress your appeal to stage 2, which is an independent hearing.
If you decide to progress your appeal to Stage 2, you must submit a Stage 2 Appeal Request Form within 10 days of receiving your review decision letter. You must include your grounds for appeal on this form, along with any other relevant information. Please ensure you include as much relevant detail as possible, as the independent panel will use this to assess your ARCP outcome decision.
We understand that disagreeing with your ARCP outcome can be a stressful experience. Support is available for all stages of your training through HEIW’s Professional Support Unit, either through supervisor recommendation, or self-referral.
