Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is seeking feedback on a set of actions developed as part of the Strategic Workforce Plan for Genomics.
The specialist genomic workforce and wider non-specialist NHS Wales workforce are encouraged to view the proposed actions and complete the consultation survey by Monday 27 May 2024.
This consultation marks a key milestone in the development of the Strategic Workforce Plan, which is being led by HEIW in partnership with Genomics Partnership Wales (GPW).
Over the next 5-10 years, Genomics will be further integrated into routine clinical practice and extend into all areas of healthcare. It will help everyone to understand more about illness and disease and enable healthcare professionals to develop targeted approaches to treatment and patient care.

Once the consultation phase has ended, the Plan will be finalised and presented to the Genomics Partnership Wales Board for approval this summer.
Dr Nicki Taverner, Genomics Clinical Lead at Health Education and Improvement Wales, commented:
"Whilst many of the actions apply to the specialist genomics workforce, a whole system approach is required to deliver better outcomes for patients when it comes to genomics.
"Therefore, key actions have been developed to educate, train and inspire the wider NHS workforce to become active partners in the delivery of genomic healthcare, in order to realise its full potential.
