Health Education and Improvement Wales’ (HEIW) endoscopy training programme continues to demonstrate its impact on the endoscopy workforce and patients across Wales.
As mentioned in the recent HEIW Endoscopy Training Programme update, HEIW provide a range of endoscopy training via the Endoscopy Academy of Wales including ENDO3 training for nurses wishing to improve their skills in management, training and leadership.
Rhiannon Davies, Endoscopy Deputy Manager at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board completed the ENDO3 training in October 2025 via the Endoscopy Academy of Wales. Rhiannon described the course as “incredibly beneficial” to both professional development and patient care, highlighting that the interactive elements of the course, particularly group discussions and collaborative activities, were the most valuable.
“These sessions gave us the opportunity to share ideas, compare real-world experiences and learn from one another,” Rhiannon commented. “It was refreshing to be part of a space where everyone could contribute openly and grow together.”
Since completing ENDO3, Rhiannon has already put the learning into practice.
“The course has given me the confidence to share my knowledge and begin teaching others in endoscopy. I’ve also developed new professional relationships that have been incredibly beneficial,” she explained.
The impact extends beyond personal development. Strengthened leadership skills, improved confidence and enhanced communication within the team contribute directly to better training environments and ultimately improved patient care. Inspired by the experience, Rhiannon has also taken the significant step of signing up to become a faculty member for future endoscopy training programmes.
When asked whether they would recommend ENDO3 to colleagues, the answer was clear: “I would recommend this training to all endoscopy nurses looking to further their professional development.”
Sabrina Cox, an Endoscopy Nurse at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (Royal Gwent Hospital), also completed the ENDO3 course in October 2025. Sabrina highlighted that the most valuable aspects of the training included learning from experienced endoscopy nurses and ODP leaders, exploring different leadership styles and recognising the importance of wellbeing for managers.
Since completing the programme, Sabrina has applied the learning directly to her role as a Band 6 nurse.
“The training has significantly impacted how I teach and train staff. It helped me appreciate diverse learning styles and adapt my approach to be more flexible and approachable, which has improved team development and patient care.”
When asked if she would recommend ENDO3, Sabrina was clear:
“Absolutely. I highly recommend this training to colleagues, especially Band 5 nurses or ODPs aspiring to be effective leaders.”
The success of HEIW’s ENDO3 course continues to highlight its role in strengthening the endoscopy workforce in Wales - supporting practitioners to grow, lead and deliver high-quality patient care.
