What we do

About the Healthcare Science Programme

The Healthcare Science Programme supports all professions within healthcare science in NHS Wales. It’s a broad and dynamic programme designed to meet diverse needs across all healthcare science professions.

This work is underpinned by the Welsh Government’s Healthcare Science Framework, which sets the direction and purpose for everything we do.

Our Strategic Vision

We aim to create:

  • A motivated, engaged and valued healthcare science workforce
  • Capacity, competence and confidence to meet the needs of people in Wales
  • An accessible and attractive career framework – from assistant to consultant and beyond
  • Quality assurance through accredited services
  • Transformation and innovation to deliver resilient, sustainable services for patients

Who makes decisions about the programme?

We work closely with the profession, including:

  • The Healthcare Science Network – representing all professional areas
  • Directors of Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) and Health Science
  • Welsh Government’s Chief Healthcare Science Officer
  • Healthcare science professionals across Wales
