Elizabeth retired as Vice-Chancellor of Aberystwyth University at the end of 2023.  Notable achievements at that time included opening departments of nursing and veterinary medicine, reopening Pantycelyn, Aberystwyth’s Welsh speaking hall of residence and AberInnovation.  Under her leadership Aberystwyth continued to have outstanding results in the National Student Survey. 

On graduating from Birmingham University as a dentist she completed in a PhD in epidemiology and following a series of university and NHS roles moved to Otago University in New Zealand.  On returning to the UK she was appointed Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Dental Public Health in Cardiff before being promoted to Professor. 

Her research interests included: national surveys, systematic reviews, clinical effectiveness and workforce planning.  She has particular expertise in the use of fluorides to prevent dental decay. 

As Dean of the Dental School and General Manager of the Dental Service Group she led the school and hospital through a period of change and restructuring.  She led the development of the dental teaching unit at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon. 

She was then appointed to be Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Cardiff University.  During this time she was appointed to be an Independent Member of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.  She served on the audit and risk committee and patient safety and quality committee where she was also chair.   

Elizabeth is a Welsh learner.  She enjoys cooking, travel, walking and particularly spending time with friends and family.
