Action 4 Staffing Benefits

Summary 

Working with NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, review and expand staff benefits that are currently not available to primary care staff and to explore potential to expand access.

This action will help ensure primary care staff have fair access to benefits, health and well-being resources and opportunities for professional development.

Benefits

By ensuring that all primary care staff have fair access to benefits, health and well-being support and opportunities to learn and grow it leads to better job satisfaction and helps staff stay in their roles longer. When staff feel supported and have the chance to develop, they are more confident and able to provide safer, higher-quality care to patients.

Progress
so far

We are working closely with the NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP) to make sure staff benefits are fair for everyone in primary care. Our main aim is to review and expand the benefits available, so that primary care staff have the same opportunities for support, health, and professional development as other NHS staff.

What has been done so far:

• We have started a detailed review of all the staff benefits currently available to primary care staff.
• We found that some benefits, like the salary sacrifice schemes (which help staff save money on things like bikes or cars), cannot be offered to staff whose pay is not managed by NWSSP. This is because of how the payment systems work.
• Even though not all benefits can be extended, we are making a list of other benefits that primary care staff can access. This includes things like health and wellbeing support, discounts, and opportunities for learning and development.
• We are making sure this list is accurate and up to date, so everyone knows what is available to them.

Next steps

We will finish putting together the full list of staff benefits for primary care staff. Once the list is complete, we will check that all primary care colleagues can actually access these benefits. After this, we will share and advertise the list widely, so everyone knows what support is available and how to get it.
