HEIW to lead discussion on AI-Enabled Healthcare Education at NHS ConfedExpo 2026 – Join Us

Published 20/05/2026

Delegates attending NHS ConfedExpo 2026 are invited to join Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) for a panel discussion exploring how artificial intelligence is being developed and applied to transform healthcare education and workforce development across NHS Wales.

Taking place in the AI Theatre at 2pm on Wednesday 10 June, the session will bring together speakers from HEIW and Cardiff University to discuss the practical realities of implementing AI within healthcare education, and how organisations can prepare the workforce for rapidly evolving technologies and models of care.

At a time when AI is dominating conversations across health and care, the session will focus on practical implementation rather than theory, exploring how AI can support more personalised, scalable, and accessible learning while strengthening workforce capability across the NHS.

The discussion will examine how AI is being integrated across the education and workforce pipeline, from undergraduate education and simulation through to postgraduate training and workforce development in practice. It will also highlight the importance of collaboration between healthcare organisations and academic institutions in ensuring staff are equipped with the skills and confidence needed for increasingly digital and AI-enabled environments.

HEIW’s work centres on using AI to support healthcare professionals and educators, helping improve access to consistent, high-quality learning opportunities while ensuring technology enhances professional judgement and safe patient care.

Alongside the session, delegates are encouraged to visit the HEIW interactive stand (G68), where the team will be sharing examples of AI-enabled learning tools, workforce innovation projects, and digital education approaches currently being developed across NHS Wales.

The stand will provide opportunities for attendees to:

  • Explore AI mentors and practical demonstrations
  • Continue conversations following the panel session
  • Discuss opportunities for collaboration and shared learning

NHS ConfedExpo is one of the UK’s largest health and care conferences, attracting more than 6,800 delegates each year. Delivered in partnership with NHS England, the event provides a national platform for organisations to share innovation, discuss emerging challenges, and explore opportunities to improve health and care delivery across the UK.
