The HEIW SAS Doctors' and Dentists' Conference brought together more than 100 healthcare professionals from across Wales for a day of learning, collaboration and professional development, helping to strengthen the skills, networks and leadership capabilities that support high-quality care for patients across Wales.
The conference provided attendees with the opportunity to hear from expert speakers, explore the latest developments in healthcare, and share experiences with colleagues from a wide range of specialties. Sessions focused on leadership, wellbeing, career development and clinical practice, equipping delegates with practical insights, ideas and tools that can be applied within their own teams and services.
Beyond professional development, the event highlighted the wider impact of investing in the SAS workforce. By supporting doctors and dentists to develop their skills, confidence and leadership capabilities, the conference contributes to stronger healthcare teams, stronger teams and better experiences and outcomes for patients across Wales.
Delegates also valued the opportunity to connect with peers from across the country, building networks that will continue to support collaboration and knowledge sharing long after the event.
One delegate commented:
"The conference gave me practical ideas and new perspectives that I can apply immediately in my role. Hearing from colleagues across Wales helped me reflect on our own ways of working and identify opportunities to improve patient care. I am leaving with greater confidence, new professional connections and a number of actions that I will take back to my team."
HEIW Associate Dean for SAS and Conference Chair, Mr Raj Nirula, said; "Our SAS doctors and dentists are a hugely important part of the NHS workforce in Wales. Events like this provide an opportunity to learn, share best practice and develop leadership skills that strengthen teams and support the delivery of high-quality care for patients across Wales. The enthusiasm and engagement shown throughout the conference demonstrates the commitment of the SAS community to delivering excellent care across Wales."
Following the success of this year's event, a further online conference is planned later this year, with another in-person event expected next year.
