Cognitive behavioural therapists (CBT therapists), help people manage their problems by changing the way they think and behave. Cognitive behavioural therapy is based on the concept that thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, resulting in negative thoughts that can lead an individual into a negative cycle. The CBT therapist aims to help individuals manage their wellbeing by changing the way they think and behave
CBT therapists are trained to assess and support children and young people or adults with common mental health or severe mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. They also provide support for other mental health problems like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), phobias and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), or physical health problems such as chronic pain. Managing referrals and signposting to other services may also be part of their role.
