Improved Supervision Hub for health and social care professionals

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is pleased to launch Phase 2 of the Supervision Hub, further strengthening support for health and social care professionals across Wales.

The Supervision Hub was introduced as part of the NHS Wales Strategic Mental Health Workforce Plan and reflects HEIW’s continued commitment to developing compassionate cultures and effective leadership. Since launching in April 2025, the hub has attracted nearly 7,000 views from 2,100 users, helping to strengthen confidence in supervision and contributing to a more informed, reflective and empowered workforce.

Phase 2 builds on this foundation and has undergone a lot of development to make the content clearer, more responsive and easier to navigate.

What’s new in Phase 2?

Clearer, more accessible content
The language has been reviewed and updated to improve accessibility and readability, reducing barriers for users and ensuring the information is clear and easier to understand.

Improved structure and navigation
Several pages have been redesigned to give a more intuitive, consistent experience. This will help users navigate the web pages and locate the relevant resources with ease.

A new ‘Supervision resources’ page
One of the most significant changes is a dedicated resources page designed to make it easier for users to find what they need at each stage of their supervision journey. The page is now categorised into the following sections:

  • Before you start: This section provides links to supervision agreement templates that support the development of a clear and consistent supervision agreement. The templates outline the key elements to include, setting out the aims and structure of supervision to ensure a shared understanding between the supervisor and the staff member being supervised. They also help promote consistency in supervision agreements across different roles and areas.
  • Session by session: This section provides helpful supervision record templates designed to support a consistent and structured approach to supervision. These templates can be used to plan sessions and help the supervisee reflect on their progress over time. Supervision is also a valuable way to demonstrate continuing professional development (CPD) and the notes captured during sessions can be used as evidence towards CPD.
  • Support resources: Useful resources to further learning, including links to the Supervision Exchange network on Y Tŷ Dysgu, the national e-learning platform for Wales’ healthcare workforce and other relevant courses.

Feedback on the Hub

“What I really like about the Supervision Hub is the structure and evidence base it provides. I particularly like the evidence base models and adopting these to various staffing groups as required.”
- Mark Anthony - Senior Nurse, Community Mental Health Team, Merthyr Tydfil/Bridgend Outreach and Recovery Team, North & South

"The supervision hub has helped West Wales Action for Mental Health and the voluntary groups we work with, to find practical and useful information on all aspects of supervision. It is an excellent and helpful resource for learning and guidance."
- Angie Darlington, Director at West Wales Action for Mental Health

“As a Practice Education Facilitator, I regularly use the Supervision Hub when working with students from a wide range of professional backgrounds. It is particularly helpful to have professional body guidance and supervision resources brought together in one place. I use the hub to support students in considering their future careers, understanding what good supervision looks like and recognising the benefits of supervision to their ongoing learning as they move into their first registered roles.
- Laura Low, Allied Health Professions (AHP) Practice Education Facilitator
