During Endometriosis Awareness Month, Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) has today (Monday 9 March) released new e-learning modules on women’s health for the NHS Wales workforce.
HEIW created these modules as part of the NHS Wales Women’s Health Plan (2025–2035), with the goal of raising awareness about endometriosis and adenomyosis, as well as supporting better outcomes for patients living with these conditions.
Endometriosis affects around one in ten women in Wales and along with adenomyosis, can cause chronic pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, fatigue and fertility challenges. Limited awareness among some healthcare professionals can cause delays in diagnosis and treatment, which is why continued education and awareness to support earlier recognition, diagnosis, timely intervention and person-centred care is key.
Developed in collaboration with key stakeholders, each module has been divided into four sections (introduction, fundamentals, clinical and specialist) to ensure clear, accessible and easy-to-digest learning.
The release of the modules coincides with the launch of the Women's Health Education Hubon HEIW’s national e-learning platform, Y Ty Dysgu. The Hub will continue to be updated with resources designed to support healthcare professionals in delivering consistent, high-quality and equitable care for women across Wales.
Danielle Garrett, Programme Manager for Women’s Health at HEIW, said:
”Enhancing women’s health education is vital for consistent treatment and compassionate, person-centred care.”
“The introduction of these modules represents progress towards bridging education gaps in women’s health, with further modules on menopause, contraception and menstrual health planned for the future.
“At HEIW, we are dedicated to providing professionals with evidence-based knowledge and practical guidance to improve the recognition, diagnosis and management of conditions affecting women throughout Wales."
The new modules are available now through the Women’s Health Education Hub on Y Ty Dysgu: Women's health - HEIW YTD Portal
