My Experience So Far…

Hello, my name’s Ayman and I am on my yearlong finance internship at HEIW, and I think it is safe to say that the year is going to fly-by. I know it will be full of fun, exciting and some daunting challenges, but the relentless encouragement from everyone makes me feel ready for what the future has to hold.

The first thing I would like to highlight, and what I realised on day one, is the warm, compassionate culture that engulfs HEIW. Settling in felt easy, as if I was being welcomed into a family (a very large one…). Not a moment passes, where I am unsupported or lost, it has made the whole beginning stage smooth.

It has been incredibly interesting to learn from some of the best, and to experience first-hand the trials and tribulations they endure to ensure their part in an economically inclined Wales. Being able to partake in meetings and discussions in a wide range of areas has been useful to understand the bigger picture of what we do here, and the impact it has. I am being consistently encouraged to take on more responsibility and venture outside my comfort zone, which ensures my growth.

My project

I am currently working on a project looking at the economic impact of HEIW on the wider Welsh economy, how value is assessed in the NHS, and how that value is maximised. I am also looking at the future workforce in NHS Wales, and how much utility they will have compared to the workforce now.

Next steps

I hope to carry on learning and growing during my time at HEIW, by pushing myself outside my comfort zone, taking on tasks with greater responsibilities and take advantage of any opportunities ahead of me. The idea of shaping a better Wales, now and in the future, fills me with joy, and I cannot wait to see what else unfolds.

Outside of work and university

I enjoy a wide range of hobbies, including sports such as badminton, football, and jiu-jitsu (I am still a white belt but enjoying the process). I play chess, I’m not too sure if you would count that as a sport, but it definitely gets my heart rate going :). I also enjoy reading, writing and watching TV!
